Structural Panels
Structural insulated panels (SIPs)
Sandwich-panel design — OSB facings over a foam core — by sandwich theory (Allen / ASTM C393), facing wrinkling (Plantema) and shear-reduced buckling, with loads to ASCE 7. Every equation, substitution, variable definition and reference is shown in full.
SIP Panel
Structural insulated panel (sandwich) — facing, core shear, wrinkling, deflection, axial buckling, bearing.
Open →SIP Shear Wall
In-plane racking shear with openings (segmented & perforated), aspect ratio, splines, overturning & hold-down.
Open →SIP Header / Lintel
Panel self-header (box beam) over openings; sizes an inserted lumber/LVL header when the panel can't span.

Design basis & limitation. SIPs have no single consensus
design code. This section follows established sandwich-panel mechanics with
ASCE 7 loads; the facing (OSB) and core (EPS) allowable values are
representative and must be replaced with the allowable values from
the specific panel's ICC-ES Evaluation Report (per AC04, full-scale tested)
for final design. Each panel page carries an independent validation report.
